notinthebook: Graham, that smile breaks my heart (perfectly happy)
[personal profile] notinthebook
She's got absolutely no idea what's going on.

Her head is throbbing, her heart is pounding, and she'd just helped Graham break into a grave -- isn't that the kind of thing she'd normally arrest someone for? -- but all she can concentrate on right now is the fact that they're alone in the office and she's just realizing that it's really sort of dark and cozy in here with the lights mainly off, and that his hand is gentle as he cleans up the cut on her forehead, and that she sort of feels like she's never really seen Graham before.

At least, she's never seen him with this accompanying feeling of terrifying happiness.

She's still watching him as he goes to put away the cloth he'd used, and he glances over at her, smiles, slightly, quizzical.  "What?"

She doesn't have a good answer for him.  It's all too complicated to put into words, but it boils down to one thing, one thought that keeps running around through her head, settling in her heart and making it race, making it feel full almost to bursting.

He picked her.  He picked her.  She'd pushed him away and gotten mad at him and she hadn't come here to be anything other than a friend and a partner, but then he chose her and changed everything.

When she gets up, she feels like she's moving underwater, but he waits for her, and she can feel her hand going to his shoulder like she's a person in a dream, feels his settle at her waist, and nerves make her smile, make her feel like she's sixteen years old and out in the world for the first time on her own, when she leans up to kiss him.

And it's so sweet, something she never thought she'd ever have for herself, though she doesn't understand the single tear that falls or the way he thanks her, making her smile, a helpless, hopeless, brilliant flash of a smile that cuts through the gloom they're standing in.

"Anytime."

"Me too."

He's done with caring about Regina, in what little capacity he used to be able to.

Now that he feels whole again, with his memories, he plans on using what is essentially a second chance at life to do what he wants.

He wants to make his own choices.

And right now? He chooses Emma.

He tilts her chin up a little, looking into her eyes and knowing this choice is the right one.

Then he kisses her again.

"Is she?"

Graham chuckles, forehead touching hers.

He has no real idea of what anyone's been saying where he and Emma are concerned, if anything at all.

(Besides which, he's been a little busy as of late.)

But the idea of Mary Margaret and Emma talking about him, and him-and-Emma, makes him laugh a little; well, laugh and blush just a little too.

"Let her be.

"I like the sound of 'you-and-me'."

ahuntsman: perfectly pleasant (sg | a boyish charm.)
From: [personal profile] ahuntsman
"It does," Graham agrees, his smile widening and the heart in his chest pounding just that much harder.

He's trying not to get carried away with the way he feels about Emma, but it's a little difficult when you've just regained everything about yourself in the course of an evening.

"So, what do you want to do now?"

Date: 2012-05-09 12:59 am (UTC)
ahuntsman: you'll have to do better than that (sg | need to know.)
From: [personal profile] ahuntsman
"Well, I meant now now," Graham says, one hand gently rubbing her arm. "The rest of it ... if there's anything to worry about, we can worry about it later."

And really, he can't see any particular worries aside from the usual Regina-related ones.

(Which they've established they don't care about right now.)

"I think that's a great idea. I'm also a fan of 'the whole kissing thing'."

It really is kind of the best.

"So, some place not work-related, but still private enough. That sums it up, yeah?"

ahuntsman: (sg | amusement.)

"Mine, then."

Graham laughs a little too.

It's possible the situation could get especially cliche if it were anyone else but Emma.

But despite the lines being used, everything right now since he essentially 'freed' himself from Regina feels like this is the way it was always headed.

It just needed to get past that particular speedbump.

"I promise I never use a line like that either."

"You're right."

He raises both eyebrows just a little in response, his smile widening.

He knows exactly what she means; and honestly, it's making it vaguely difficult to concentrate.

"Let me just grab my keys, we'll lock up, and then ... head out."

To his place.

A place even Regina has never been to, in all the years she had him living this half-life.

ahuntsman: cool + casual (sg | don't think twice it's all right.)
From: [personal profile] ahuntsman
"I think so," he says. Though he isn't too sure, if he's going to be completely honest.

Mostly because he, too, is a little hesitant to step away from Emma - even for the brief moment it takes to do the usual office housekeeping routine.

It's a little like ... well, now that he's found her - really found her - he doesn't want to let go.

(Like if he does, this will all turn out to be a dream and he'll go back to living in the fog of Regina's Curse.)

He can feel her warmth, smell her hair, feel the beating of her heart from this distance. And it's reassuring, and pleasant and just a little more than addictive.

He closes his eyes for just a second. They can't just stand here like this for the rest of the night.

It's silly.

(And he wants her.)

"Ready."

"It's not too far from here, just by the woods; but it'll be faster if we take my car if you're okay with that."

If Graham is in any sort of a rush, he is doing his very best not to make it seem painfully obvious.

Of course, his arm brushes hers several more times than probably necessary, if only to maintain some form of contact.

The car is parked in its usual place - a designated spot with 'sheriff' printed across the concrete in small lot behind the office building.

Graham simply nods his agreement, looking just a little giddy but mostly composed and cool.

Which, okay, requires something of an effort to maintain.

But, no matter.

They're in his car now, and he isn't lying when he says his place isn't too far from here - particularly when it's relatively late at night and the traffic (which isn't usually much on the busiest of days) is less so.

Moments later, he pulls up to a modest-looking apartment complex. It's only about four levels high and has maybe ten rooms on each floor at most, but it's clean and well-lit.

They're barely in the door of his apartment before he turns to kiss her.

ahuntsman: ain't no thang (sg | that's appreciated.)
From: [personal profile] ahuntsman
Graham chuckles softly, their faces close enough that he can feel her breath when she speaks.

"Thank you," he says. "Can't say I spend much time here."

Keys still in hand, he tosses them onto the nearest table-surface, then starts to loosen his tie.

Well, while she's busy with his tie, he'll help Emma with her jeans.

Look at that teamwork.

"Mm - you're probably right. It may take a bit of practice, though. Fair warning."

"Yes. I'm incredibly lucky," he agrees, his voice coming out a little breathless.

He shifts so Emma can get his vest off, never pausing in their kisses, before tossing it vaguely by the pile of scattered clothing and footwear.

Warm hands go to Emma's waist, reaching for the hem of her shirt and pulling it upwards.
