There's not a lot she can do or say to make any of this better or easier for Mary Margaret. It's tough when you've fallen for somebody and can't be with them; even harder when it seems like they've fallen for you right back.
So she just watched, mouth pressed tight and crooked in sympathy, arms crossed over her chest as she leans back against the counter, and when Mary Margaret offers a change of topic, she takes it, glancing ruefully at the shirt she'd brushed so violently to the side.
"I think it's probably a lost cause, but thanks anyway."
